Sanjeev Chopra IAS Meets Telangana Civil Supplies Minister to Discuss Public Distribution System Improvements
Hyderabad – Sanjeev Chopra, IAS, Secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, met with Telangana Civil Supplies Minister Nalamada Uttam Kumar Reddy on November 1 to discuss key aspects of procurement and the public distribution system (PDS) in the state.
During this inaugural visit to Telangana, Chopra and Reddy focused on creating a roadmap for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the PDS. Their discussions encompassed various strategies aimed at improving procurement processes and ensuring that citizens receive timely and quality supplies.
Chopra also visited a Jan Poshan Kendra operating under the SMART FPS Scheme, specifically examining Fair Price Shop No. 819 located in AG Colony, Erragadda, Hyderabad. He reviewed the range of products available at the shop, gauged consumer demand, and assessed various schemes offered to beneficiaries.
After inspecting the quality of rice and wheat at the shop, Chopra interacted with ration card beneficiaries, who expressed satisfaction with the timely delivery and quality of their rations.
In addition to the shop visit, Chopra toured the office of the Commissioner of Civil Supplies, where Principal Secretary DS Chauhan presented a detailed overview of the systemic changes implemented in paddy procurement within Telangana. The Principal Secretary requested support from the Union government to further enhance and strengthen the procurement system.
Chopra assured the state of the Union government’s continued support, commending Telangana’s initiatives in streamlining paddy procurement. He noted that the successful practices developed in Telangana could serve as a model for other states across India. This meeting reflects the ongoing efforts to optimize food distribution and ensure food security for all citizens.
