Mumbai: Mumbai Indians’ captain, Hardik Pandya, has been fined Rs 30 lakh and suspended from his team’s opening match in the next edition of the IPL due to a slow over-rate offence, marking the third such instance during the competition.
Following Mumbai Indians’ final league game against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday, Pandya’s suspension will be enforced at the commencement of the next season.
“In their IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium on May 17, Mumbai Indians’ captain Hardik Pandya has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate,” stated a media release.
“As this constitutes the team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate violations, Pandya has been fined Rs 30 lakh and will be ineligible for the team’s next match,” the release further clarified.
Additionally, all other members of the playing XI, including Impact Player Rohit Sharma, will incur fines amounting to 50 percent or Rs 12 lakh of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.
“Each remaining member of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, has been fined either Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is less,” the release outlined.
While there is no set protocol, it is customary for team management to settle fines on behalf of its players, ensuring minimal financial impact on the individuals involved.
