Harish Rao Calls for Reinstatement of Dismissed TGSP Constables in Telangana
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA T. Harish Rao has called on the Telangana government to revoke the recent dismissal of 10 constables from the Telangana Special Police (TGSP), who were fired for protesting against their working conditions.
Expressing his discontent with the government’s actions, Rao labeled the dismissal a “heinous act” and criticized the decision, stating that it contradicts the objective of implementing a uniform police policy. “We strongly condemn this,” he asserted.
Harish Rao, who has personal ties to the police force, empathized with the challenges faced by law enforcement personnel. “I come from a police family. I know the hardships of the police. I understand the pain of having a wife and children at home,” he stated. He questioned the government’s treatment of police officers post-election, wondering why they are subjected to harsh conditions after coming to power.
Rao demanded that the government address the concerns of TGSP staff, retract the dismissal orders for the 10 constables, and reinstate the 39 others who were suspended.
This situation arose after the Telangana government ordered the dismissal of the 10 constables for allegedly instigating protests within TGSP police battalions. The dismissals followed ongoing agitations at various battalion headquarters and streets, where TGSP personnel rallied for the implementation of the “Ek Police” policy.
In a statement, the police department clarified that the dismissals were intended to maintain the reputation of the TGSP and were executed under Article 311(2)(b) of the Indian Constitution, which allows for disciplinary action in cases affecting public interest. The government emphasized that the actions were taken to safeguard operational cohesion and public trust.
As the situation unfolds, the calls for reinstatement and resolution of the constables’ grievances highlight the ongoing tensions within the police force in Telangana.
