Controversial Video of Haryana BJP Leader Sparks Backlash
Kurukshetra: A video featuring Haryana BJP leader and Pehowa Assembly candidate Jai Bhagwan Sharma (commonly known as DD) has gone viral, prompting significant backlash on social media. The footage captures Sharma stepping on the hands of his party’s workers during an election campaign event, a gesture meant to signify “blessings” but interpreted by many as demeaning.
The incident took place near Sharma’s SUV, where several party workers kneeled and extended their hands for him to walk upon, demonstrating their loyalty to the leader. Rather than dissuading the act, Sharma proceeded to step on their hands, which has drawn sharp criticism from netizens.
One social media user remarked, “Our forefathers made the supreme sacrifice to free our motherland from the clutches of the British Rule… but sadly, a majority of us elected these ZAMINDARS of BJP – who divide us on religious & caste lines and then walk on us! Wake Up INDIA! Throw these Zamindars OUT before it’s too late.”
The Haryana Assembly elections, set for October 5, are critical for the BJP, which is grappling with anti-incumbency sentiments after two consecutive terms in power. Sharma is contesting from the Pehowa constituency against Gehal Singh Sandhu of the Aam Aadmi Party and Mandeep Chatha of the Congress. Other local parties, including the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), are also vying for votes in this pivotal region of Kurukshetra.
As the controversy unfolds, the impact of Sharma’s actions on his campaign remains to be seen, with many voters expressing discontent over perceived elitism and insensitivity from political leaders.
