India’s Information Security Spending Set to Reach $3.4 Billion by 2025

New Delhi Information security spending in India is projected to surge to $3.4 billion by 2025, marking a 17.1% increase from 2024, according to a new report by Gartner released on Wednesday. This year, end-user spending on information security is expected to hit $2.9 billion.

The recent CrowdStrike outage underscored significant internal vulnerabilities, highlighting the urgent need for many organizations to fortify their IT environments. This has led to an increased focus on endpoint and cloud security, prompting many chief information security officers (CISOs) to reassess and enhance their prevention, response, and support protocols.

Gartner’s Shailendra Upadhyay noted that the outage has driven organizations to ensure that key personnel are well-equipped with the necessary skills for effective response and recovery.

Within the security services sector, spending on managed security services is anticipated to grow by 34.3%, outpacing growth in security consulting services (10.9%) and security professional services (17.9%). Managed detection and response (MDR), a subcategory of managed security services, is expected to see the highest growth at 42.3%.

Spending on security software is forecasted to reach $1.3 billion in 2025, reflecting a 14.8% increase year-on-year. This growth is driven by the expanding use of public cloud services, expected to rise by 34% in India by 2025, and the increasing adoption of AI and GenAI technologies.

The rise in spending is partly attributed to the ongoing shortage of cybersecurity talent in India, leading organizations to outsource expertise and seek cost-effective solutions for risk mitigation.

Recent reports reveal that the Indian healthcare sector faces an average of 6,935 cyberattacks per week, significantly higher than the global average of 1,821 attacks per organization, underscoring the critical need for enhanced security measures.
