Jerusalem: Israel Poised for Civilian Evacuation in Rafah Amidst Anticipated Ground Operation
Israel is reportedly gearing up to evacuate civilians from Rafah, Gaza’s southernmost city, in preparation for a planned ground assault, according to a state-owned media outlet.
The evacuation, set to commence “soon,” awaits the final approval of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as per a report by the Israeli Kan TV cited by Xinhua news agency.
Earlier discussions on Thursday within Israel’s wartime and security cabinets centered on the prospect of an assault on Rafah, previously considered a “safe zone” amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes. The city has provided refuge for approximately 1.4 million displaced Palestinians.
Additionally, ministers deliberated efforts to advance a ceasefire aimed at securing the release of over 100 hostages held in Gaza.
While Prime Minister Netanyahu endorsed attack plans in late March, the execution order is still pending.
The United Nations has issued a stark warning about the potentially catastrophic impact of any ground operation in Rafah on civilian populations.
