MEA Ensures Safe Return of Indian Students Amid Bangladesh Unrest

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported that nearly 1,000 Indian students have returned to India from Bangladesh amidst ongoing unrest in the neighboring country, which has seen fatal clashes claiming over 90 lives.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar assured that the MEA is fully committed to the safety and well-being of Indians in Bangladesh, with Indian missions maintaining regular contact with local authorities to ensure security.

According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, 778 Indian students have returned via land transit points, while approximately 200 have flown home from Dhaka and Chittagong airports.

The unrest in Bangladesh stems from protests against a contentious job quota system, prompting law enforcement to impose a nationwide curfew amid persistent clashes between protesters and police.

Acknowledging concerns from families and well-wishers, Jaishankar underscored the MEA’s proactive approach in safeguarding Indian nationals’ interests. He also noted that more than 4,000 Indian students remaining in Bangladeshi universities are receiving ongoing assistance from Indian diplomatic missions.

The MEA’s efforts include coordination with Bangladeshi authorities, civil aviation, immigration, and border security forces to facilitate safe passage for returning citizens, ensuring minimal disruption in travel arrangements.

Moreover, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka continues to collaborate closely with local aviation authorities and airlines to maintain uninterrupted flight services between Dhaka, Chittagong, and India for the convenience of returning nationals.

The MEA’s comprehensive measures reflect its priority in ensuring the safe return and welfare of Indian nationals amidst the current situation in Bangladesh.

Appreciate the concern of families and well wishers of Indian nationals in Bangladesh.

MEA is fully focused on ensuring their safety and well being. The current situation is as below. https://t.co/KpUp9gEaHa
