D.K. Shivakumar Confident of Congress Victory in Haryana After Support from INDIA Bloc
Karnataka Congress President and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed gratitude to the people of Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir for their support of the Congress party and the INDIA bloc during a press conference on Tuesday. He confidently asserted that the Congress party is poised to form the government in Haryana.
Shivakumar emphasized a growing desire for change among the electorate, stating, “The people of the nation now want a change. They have supported the INDIA bloc and the Congress party.” He pointed out that after a prolonged period of supporting the NDA alliance and the BJP, a shift in public sentiment has emerged, which he believes will benefit the Congress in the current elections.
“The Congress party’s programmes were initiated in Karnataka and have received widespread acceptance,” he noted, adding that this shift is evident as the political landscape evolves. He mentioned that Maharashtra is approaching elections soon and that the country is witnessing significant changes in voter attitudes.
While early trends showed the Congress party leading in Haryana, later reports indicated that the BJP was leading in 48 out of 90 seats, with Congress at 35, the INLD at two, and others at five. Shivakumar clarified that while these trends are promising, they are not definitive indicators of future election outcomes. Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda remains optimistic, asserting that Congress will secure an absolute majority.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference was leading in 40 seats, followed by the BJP with 27, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with five, and others with ten seats. Shivakumar’s statements reflect the Congress party’s strategic focus on expanding its influence and addressing voter concerns as the political climate continues to evolve.
