Lucknow: During a joint press conference held on Thursday, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal refrained from commenting on the incident involving Swati Maliwal, while Akhilesh Yadav asserted that there are “more pressing matters” warranting attention.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh, also present at the press briefing, emphasized the need to refrain from politicizing the issue.
Singh redirected the focus towards the BJP government, highlighting incidents such as the purported assault of a Manipuri woman, the Prajwal Revanna scandal, and Maliwal’s altercation with law enforcement during protests while serving as the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief.
When questioned about the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Maliwal, Yadav intervened, stating, “There are matters of greater significance.”
He proceeded to unveil a document, denouncing the BJP and characterizing them as a faction propagating baseless accusations.
Singh then assumed control of the conversation, asserting that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be held accountable for the injustices against women occurring under their administration.
Singh alleged, “The nation laments the incident where the wife of a Kargil veteran was publicly humiliated in Manipur, and yet the Prime Minister of India chose silence. Prajwal Revanna’s misconduct affected numerous women, yet he was permitted to abscond from the country under BJP’s watch.”
“In the case of female wrestlers protesting at Jantar Mantar, Swati Maliwal, in her capacity as NCW chief, was subjected to mistreatment and violence by law enforcement. In Uttar Pradesh, instances such as Kuldeep Singh Sengar and Hathras have witnessed the PM maintaining a conspicuous silence,” Singh continued.
Maliwal had previously accused the Delhi Chief Minister’s assistant, Bibhav Kumar, of misconduct at his residence.
Reflecting on his visit to Maliwal’s residence, Singh reiterated, “AAP stands in solidarity with our colleagues. The party’s stance is unequivocal. I urge the BJP and the PM to address the concerns I have highlighted. The PM must address the plight of Swati Maliwal, who faced brutality while advocating for justice for female wrestlers. Let us refrain from politicizing these issues.”
