Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Condemns Disruption of Christmas Celebrations, Urges Unity Against Communal Forces
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday condemned the alleged disruption of Christmas celebrations at a school by local activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and called on the people of the state to unite against communal forces. In a strong statement, Vijayan urged citizens to stand together against individuals whose actions are an “insult to Kerala and its people.”
The Chief Minister, in his Christmas Eve greetings, highlighted Kerala’s culture of openness and inclusivity, emphasizing that the state’s people have always embraced different beliefs, treating the happiness of others as their own. “We see every celebration as an opportunity to share the sweetness of love,” he stated.
Vijayan reaffirmed the long-standing tradition in Kerala of people from various religious communities joining in one another’s celebrations. However, he expressed concern over recent efforts by what he described as “malicious communal forces” aiming to undermine this tradition by turning religious beliefs into sources of division and hatred.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the recent attacks on Christmas celebrations by the Sangh Parivar group were an alarming trend that threatens the unity and harmony of the state. He emphasized the collective responsibility to resist these forces and protect Kerala’s true spirit of togetherness.
Vijayan concluded his statement by wishing that the birth of Jesus Christ would bring messages of humanity and love to all and urged people to celebrate Christmas together in the spirit of unity.
The alleged incidents, including the disruption of Christmas celebrations by VHP activists at a school and the destruction of a symbolic crib created by students in Palakkad, have sparked widespread protests across Kerala. In response, the state government has deployed a special police team to investigate the matter.
