Thiruvananthapuram: CM Pinarayi Vijayan Hails Kerala’s Unity in Wayanad Landslide Rescue Efforts
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday lauded the collective spirit of Kerala society in the wake of the devastating landslides in Wayanad, describing the disaster as one of the state’s most significant tragedies. Addressing newly inducted police cadets at the police grounds, Vijayan commended the rescue mission’s unity and highlighted the crucial role of the police force in the ongoing operations.
“The rescue mission reflects the glorious culture of our state, transcending all differences,” Vijayan stated, emphasizing the police’s pivotal contribution. He lamented the immense global impact of the tragedy, noting that Kerala has never faced such a severe disaster before.
As of Monday, the death toll from the landslides, which occurred on July 30, has risen to 226, with search and rescue efforts continuing in the affected areas. “Wayanad is a pain that burns the heart,” Vijayan added, underscoring the profound grief experienced both locally and worldwide.
