The Mangalagiri assembly constituency will be a focal point of discussion in Telugu political circles on June 4th when the Andhra Pradesh election results are announced. This contest holds quintessential importance for Nara Lokesh, given his defeat in 2019. A victory here is imperative for Lokesh’s political future.
With a staggering 65 nominations filed in Mangalagiri, the highest among all star constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, political analysts perceive this unusually high number as a strategy by the ruling party to potentially divert votes and create a false impression of intense competition.
To provide context, Jagan’s Pulivendula constituency has 37 nominations, approximately half that of Mangalagiri’s count. Similarly, Kuppam, where Chandrababu Naidu is contesting, has 22 nominations.
In contrast, Pawan’s Pithapuram and Balakrishna’s Hindupur constituencies have 19 nominations each, significantly fewer than Mangalagiri’s count.
While these diversionary tactics unfold, Nara Lokesh has expressed confidence to Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan, assuring them of winning Mangalagiri with a majority of at least 50,000 votes. His primary opponent in this constituency is YCP’s Murugudu Lavanya.
