NCP Raises Alarm Over Potential Surveillance of MP Supriya Sule
Mumbai: Mahesh Tapase, Chief Spokesman for NCP(SP), has expressed grave concerns about the possible surveillance of party MP Supriya Sule by government agencies. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Tapase suggested that Sule, who recently achieved a significant electoral victory, might be under scrutiny from certain government bodies.
Tapase’s concerns follow Sule’s recent disclosure that her husband received an Income Tax Department notice shortly after she criticized the government during the parliamentary Budget Session. Tapase has accused the BJP of resorting to “desperate measures” to undermine Sule’s position after failing to defeat her at the polls.
“The BJP, unable to overcome Supriya Sule’s electoral success, has turned to other tactics to weaken our party,” Tapase claimed. He pointed to the party’s efforts to destabilize the NCP by enticing Ajit Pawar to join their ranks as evidence of their strategy to diminish Sule’s influence.
Further escalating his accusations, Tapase expressed worries that the Pegasus spyware might be employed to monitor the activities of Opposition leaders, including Sule, ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. He highlighted past instances where the BJP has been alleged to surveil political opponents and raised fears about the potential misuse of surveillance technology.
In response to these allegations, Tapase has demanded that the Maharashtra Home Department promptly clarify whether any surveillance is being conducted on Sule or other Opposition leaders such as Uddhav Thackeray, Jayant Patil, and Nana Patole. He described any such surveillance as a serious breach of democratic norms and called for immediate transparency from the state’s Home Ministry.
