New Delhi: National Testing Agency (NTA) Initiates Stringent Measures Against 39 Candidates for Unfair Means in JEE Main 2024

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a notification detailing strict penalties, including a three-year debarment, against 39 candidates for engaging in unfair practices during the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2024.

Earlier reported instances included a case of impersonation and nine cases of unfair means detected on the first day of the JEE-Main Session 2. These fraudulent activities were identified through the utilization of AI tools, particularly iFace, deployed by the agency to monitor and prevent malpractices during the examination.

NTA introduced the iFace AI technology to authenticate the identity of exam candidates, employing live photograph cross-verification with the photo on the admit card at the exam center. This was complemented by mandatory frisking and electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) procedures. Additionally, NTA bolstered its examination security measures with a significant workforce dedicated to biometric authentication, frisking, CCTV surveillance, and jamming services.

The JEE Main examinations were conducted in two sessions this year, with the first session held from January 28 to February 1 and the second session from April 4 to 9. The result of Paper 1 (BE / BTech) was announced on April 24, 2024.

Following the result declaration of JEE (Main) – 2024, certain concerns were raised by candidates regarding scorecard display issues. Notably, the NTA emphasized that multiple application submissions by a candidate would lead to result cancellation, as outlined in public notices and the JEE (Main) – 2024 information bulletin.

The notification released by NTA further clarifies that any candidate found with multiple application numbers or scorecards, even if discovered at a later stage, will be considered engaging in unfair means. As per court directives, candidates cannot obtain two scorecards with different application numbers for the same examination within a year. Consequently, for candidates with multiple appearances under different application numbers, NTA has declared their best scores in the scorecard.
