Following the arrest of four suspected IS terrorists at Ahmedabad airport, security at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which is set to host the first qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday, has been significantly enhanced.
The highly anticipated match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad is expected to draw thousands of fans. Consequently, Ahmedabad Police have intensified security measures to ensure public safety, according to officials.
In response to recent events, police forces have been placed on high alert. Security will be maintained both inside and outside the stadium, officials confirmed.
Detailing the deployment, police officials stated that over 3,000 personnel, including five Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) and 10 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP), will be on duty.
In addition, more than 800 private security personnel will be stationed within the stadium premises.
A police convoy will be positioned at the stadium to prevent any potential incidents during the match.
The increased security measures follow the arrest of four suspected IS terrorists at Ahmedabad airport on May 20. These individuals, identified as Sri Lankan nationals, were apprehended before they could carry out any plans during the ongoing IPL season.
Officials disclosed that the suspects traveled from Sri Lanka to Chennai before arriving in Ahmedabad. Their arrest has prompted heightened vigilance and comprehensive security arrangements to protect fans and players attending today’s match.
