Pant, Digvesh Singh Penalized After LSG’s Thrilling Win Over MI
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant and young spinner Digvesh Singh both faced penalties for separate breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct following LSG’s exhilarating 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Pant was fined Rs 12 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate during Match 16, marking LSG’s first such offence of the 2025 season. Under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, teams are required to bowl their overs within the stipulated time frame. As the captain, Pant was held accountable for the lapse.
The IPL statement read, “Rishabh Pant, Captain, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 16 of the IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday.”
Meanwhile, 23-year-old fast bowler Digvesh Singh received a more substantial penalty for his own violation. Singh was fined 50 percent of his match fees after committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct. This breach, believed to be related to inappropriate language used following a wicket, marked his second offence of the season. Singh had already earned one demerit point in the match against Punjab Kings on April 1, bringing his total to three demerit points.
Under IPL’s disciplinary protocol, Level 1 offences are handled by the Match Referee, whose decision is final and binding.
Despite the disciplinary issues, Lucknow had much to celebrate following the match. Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh both scored half-centuries, providing a solid foundation for LSG’s total. In the final overs, a disciplined bowling performance, led by Digvesh Singh, Shardul Thakur, and Avesh Khan—who each claimed a wicket—helped defend the total successfully, securing LSG’s first home win of the campaign.
