PM Modi Highlights India’s Unity and Constitutional Values in Lok Sabha Speech
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described India as the “Mother of Democracy” and emphasized the Constitution as the cornerstone of the country’s unity. Speaking on the second day of the debate marking 75 years since the adoption of the Indian Constitution, PM Modi quoted Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s remarks on the significance of collective decision-making in fostering unity.
PM Modi expressed his concern over how, after Independence, vested interests had undermined the nation’s foundational principle of “unity in diversity.” He asserted, “Making unity in diversity a part of our lives will be the biggest tribute to Dr. Ambedkar.”
The Prime Minister also addressed Article 370, which he described as an obstacle to national unity, explaining that the government’s decision to abrogate it was in line with the country’s priority of strengthening unity.
In his speech, PM Modi highlighted several initiatives aimed at unifying the country. He pointed to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as a key achievement for economic integration and praised the “One Nation, One Tax” initiative. Furthermore, he discussed the “One Nation, One Ration Card” scheme, which ensures access to food for citizens across the country.
The Prime Minister also touched on the “One Nation, One Health Card” initiative, which aims to provide nationwide health insurance coverage, and “One Nation, One Grid,” which aims to address electricity distribution disparities across the nation. These efforts reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to bridging regional divides in infrastructure development.
Additionally, PM Modi spoke about the government’s efforts to enhance digital connectivity, such as the optical fiber link to all panchayats, aiming to avoid the creation of a digital divide. He also highlighted the New Education Policy, which supports the use of mother tongues in education, allowing students to pursue higher studies in their native languages.
On the subject of women’s empowerment, the Prime Minister celebrated the achievements of Indian women, particularly in the field of space technology. He credited the Constitution for inspiring women-led development and noted that India’s current President is a woman.
Looking to the future, PM Modi concluded by expressing confidence that India would soon become the third-largest economy in the world and would achieve the status of a developed nation by the 100th anniversary of Independence.
