Prime Minister Narendra Modi Marks India’s 78th Independence Day with Flag Hoisting at Red Fort
Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated India’s 78th Independence Day on Thursday with a poignant ceremony at the Red Fort, where he hoisted the national flag and honored the nation’s freedom fighters. In his address, PM Modi reflected on the sacrifices of countless patriots, stating, “Today is the day to pay tributes to the uncountable ‘Azaadi ke deewane’ who made sacrifices for the nation. This country is indebted to them.”
The ceremony was highlighted by a spectacular display from the Indian Air Force’s Advanced Light Helicopters, which showered flower petals as the Tiranga was unfurled. This address marked PM Modi’s first in his historic third term and his 11th consecutive speech on August 15.
Prior to his speech, PM Modi inspected the Guard of Honour at the Red Fort and began the day by paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
In light of this year’s theme, “Viksit Bharat@ 2047,” PM Modi emphasized the government’s ambition to transform India into a developed nation by the centenary of Independence. He described the theme as a reflection of the collective resolve and aspirations of 1.4 billion citizens, asserting, “Viksit Bharat 2047 are not mere words, they are a reflection of resolve and dreams of 140 crore people.”
On the eve of Independence Day, PM Modi also praised the increasing engagement with the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, urging greater public participation. Launched during the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the campaign is now in its fourth year and aims to foster a sense of national pride and unity.
