PM Modi Emphasizes Quad’s Role in Indo-Pacific Peace Ahead of US Visit
New Delhi: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on a three-day visit to the United States, he highlighted the Quad’s significance as a platform for like-minded nations committed to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. Modi’s visit will include participation in the Quad summit and a pivotal address at the United Nations.
During his time in the US, Modi is scheduled for bilateral meetings with President Joe Biden and other global leaders, further strengthening ties on the margins of the Quad summit in Wilmington, Delaware, and the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the UN General Assembly in New York.
“I look forward to joining my colleagues President Biden, Prime Minister Albanese, and Prime Minister Kishida for the Quad Summit,” Modi stated, underscoring the forum’s focus on collaboration among nations for regional stability.
The annual Quad summit is anticipated to introduce new initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, while also addressing ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. Notably, the leaders are expected to announce a “milestone” initiative focused on cancer prevention and treatment, aiming to alleviate the impact of the disease on patients and their families.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri noted that the summit will prioritize discussions on peace, progress, and stability in the Indo-Pacific, covering key areas such as health security, climate change, emerging technologies, infrastructure, connectivity, and counterterrorism.
Following the Wilmington summit, Modi will engage with the Indian diaspora at an event in Long Island on September 22 before addressing the Summit of the Future at the UN on September 23. He expressed enthusiasm for connecting with the Indian community and American business leaders, emphasizing their crucial role in fostering vibrant ties between the largest and oldest democracies.
“The Summit of the Future presents a unique opportunity for the global community to chart a course for the betterment of humanity,” Modi remarked, affirming that he will represent the perspectives of one-sixth of the world’s population, advocating for a peaceful and secure future.
The ‘Summit of the Future’ aims to unite leaders from various nations to forge a new international consensus on delivering a better present and safeguarding the future, as stated by the UN.
