Prime Minister Narendra Modi Concludes Fruitful Visit to Singapore and Brunei
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned to Delhi following a successful three-day visit to Singapore and Brunei. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation between India and these Southeast Asian nations.
In a video shared on X, PM Modi described his Singapore visit as “very fruitful,” emphasizing that it would invigorate bilateral ties and benefit both nations. He expressed gratitude to the government and people of Singapore for their warm hospitality.
During his stay in Singapore, PM Modi met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Parliament House. The two leaders, accompanied by their respective delegations, held a bilateral meeting to review the progress of India-Singapore relations. Their discussions resulted in the exchange of four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering digital technology, semiconductors, skill development, and healthcare.
PM Modi extended an invitation to PM Wong to visit India, which was graciously accepted. Additionally, PM Modi, along with PM Wong, visited the semiconductor facility of AEM Holdings Ltd., where he invited Singaporean semiconductor companies to participate in the upcoming SEMICON INDIA exhibition in Greater Noida, scheduled for September 11-13.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Their discussions focused on key sectors such as skill development, sustainability, technology, innovation, and connectivity. Both leaders reaffirmed the long-standing friendship and extensive cooperation between India and Singapore. As the two countries approach the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year, they agreed to elevate their partnership to a ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’ to enhance bilateral cooperation across various domains.
Prior to his Singapore visit, PM Modi was in Brunei, where he engaged in “wide-ranging” talks with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah at Istana Nurul Iman in Bandar Seri Begawan. The discussions focused on expanding trade, commercial linkages, and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations. PM Modi also inaugurated the new Chancery of the High Commission of India in Brunei’s capital.
PM Modi’s visit to both Singapore and Brunei underscores India’s commitment to strengthening ties with its Southeast Asian partners and expanding its footprint in the region.
