PM Modi Set to Visit Kuwait, Strengthening Bilateral Ties
In a move to further enhance India’s relations with Kuwait, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the key West Asian nation, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in over 43 years. The visit comes after Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya extended an invitation to PM Modi during his visit to New Delhi, which was graciously accepted by the Indian leader.
Kuwait, which currently holds the presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), is the only GCC member—comprising the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar—that PM Modi has not visited since assuming office in 2014. A proposed visit in 2022 was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
During discussions with the visiting Foreign Minister, PM Modi reaffirmed the importance of India-Kuwait relations, calling the Gulf country a vital partner. Modi also expressed gratitude to Kuwait’s leadership for ensuring the well-being of the large Indian diaspora, the largest foreign community in the country.
The visit is expected to deepen bilateral cooperation, especially in sectors like energy, food security, and regional stability. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation was also signed between India and Kuwait, reflecting their mutual commitment to enhancing their partnership across various fronts.
With this upcoming visit, PM Modi aims to strengthen India’s ties with Kuwait and the broader GCC region, fostering further cooperation on economic, political, and security matters.
