PM Modi Congratulates BJP Candidates for Victory in Telangana MLC Elections
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the newly elected BJP candidates in the Telangana Members of the Legislative Council (MLC) elections, thanking the people of the state for their overwhelming support. In a post on X, PM Modi expressed his gratitude, saying, “I thank the people of Telangana for blessing @BJP4Telangana with such phenomenal support in the MLC elections. Congratulations to our newly elected candidates.”
He also lauded the party workers for their tireless efforts, saying, “I am very proud of our Party Karyakartas who are working among the people with great diligence.”
In a closely contested election, the BJP secured a remarkable victory, winning two out of three MLC seats. This victory dealt a significant blow to the ruling Congress party in the state, especially in the context of a highly competitive electoral battle.
The Graduates MLC constituency, spanning 42 Assembly segments and comprising over 355,000 voters, was contested under a preferential voting system using ballot papers. The MLC election, held on February 27, saw BJP candidate Chinnamail Anji Reddy defeat Congress’ V. Narender Reddy in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ segment. This seat, previously held by senior Congress leader and former Minister T. Jeevan Reddy, was a significant win for the BJP.
Additionally, BJP-backed candidate Malka Komaraiah won the election in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar teachers’ constituency with a margin of more than 5,700 first-preference votes, defeating his nearest rival, Vanga Mahender Reddy of the PRTU(TS).
Meanwhile, the PRTU(TS) secured the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda seat, with their candidate P. Sripal Reddy emerging victorious in second-preference votes, securing 13,969 votes.
The BJP’s victories marked a considerable setback for Congress, particularly given that this election reflected the sentiments of the state’s educated electorate. This result comes just over a year after Congress’ victory in the Telangana Assembly elections.
Following the win, Union Minister for Coal and Mines, and state BJP president G. Kishan Reddy congratulated Anji Reddy for his victory in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ segment. He credited the youth of Telangana for placing their trust in BJP’s developmental politics and PM Modi’s leadership, describing it as another testament to the growing popularity of the BJP in the state.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, also celebrated the BJP’s victory in Karimnagar, remarking that the Congress government’s “countdown has started.” He claimed that the people of Telangana were looking for change and were turning to the BJP. Bandi Sanjay also pointed out that despite Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, expressing doubts about the credibility of EVMs, the BJP had secured victories in elections held through ballot papers.
This victory further strengthens the BJP’s foothold in Telangana, signaling a shift in the political landscape of the state.
