Rahul Gandhi to Address Congress Leaders in Hyderabad Ahead of Telangana’s Caste Survey Launch
Hyderabad: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to address Telangana party leaders on Tuesday ahead of the state’s much-anticipated caste survey, which will be launched on November 6. Rahul, also the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is expected to provide guidance to Congress functionaries regarding the survey, a key initiative closely aligned with his idea of a national caste census.
Rahul’s brief visit to Hyderabad is of significant political importance, as Telangana is poised to become the first state to conduct a comprehensive caste survey. This move aligns with the Congress leader’s long-standing commitment to addressing caste-based inequalities. During his two-hour visit, Rahul is expected to discuss strategies with party leaders to ensure the survey’s success, with an eye on potentially replicating the Telangana model in other states governed by the Congress.
The upcoming survey will collect socio-economic, educational, political, and employment data, alongside caste-specific information, to better plan and implement welfare measures for the state’s backward classes, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and other disadvantaged groups. The survey will involve over 85,000 government employees and will be conducted in a door-to-door format, with the Planning Department designated as the nodal agency.
The Telangana government issued a Government Order (GO) last month outlining the scope of the survey. According to the GO, the initiative aims to identify and provide targeted opportunities for the socio-economic development of backward and marginalized communities in the state.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit, just a day before the survey’s launch, highlights Congress’s proactive stance in promoting policies that cater to social justice and the empowerment of marginalized groups. The party sees the Telangana caste survey as a crucial step toward achieving inclusive growth and equitable development.
