Sharjah Charity International (SCI) has allocated AED84.3 million towards various aid programmes within the UAE during the first half of this year, according to a report from the Department of Excellence and Strategic Planning. This funding underscores the organization’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of beneficiaries through targeted support.
The aid distribution includes AED6.7 million dedicated to monthly support, AED31.2 million for seasonal initiatives, and AED39.6 million in lump-sum assistance. Abdullah bin Khadim, Executive Director of SCI, highlighted that internal aid remains a priority, aimed at fostering happiness, stability, family cohesion, and loyalty among recipients.
A notable portion of the lump-sum aid, amounting to AED39.6 million, was directed towards medical assistance, benefiting 743 patients with critical conditions such as viral hepatitis, cancer, and kidney failure. This support encompassed essential treatments including liver transplants, heart surgeries, and prosthetics. The association relies heavily on charitable contributions to meet these urgent needs.
Additionally, AED8.3 million was allocated for housing assistance, benefitting 906 families. This aid facilitated the restoration and maintenance of deteriorated homes, provided essential appliances and furniture, and covered overdue rent and utility bills for families in challenging circumstances.
In support of education, SCI provided AED4.8 million in aid, covering tuition fees and supplying tablets to over 680 students from low-income families. The organization also assisted 1,100 individuals in securing their release from penal and correctional facilities by settling their debts in collaboration with relevant authorities.
The association disbursed AED6.7 million in monthly cash assistance to orphans, widows, divorcees, and individuals facing livelihood issues. This aid, typically granted for a six-month period and renewable based on family circumstances, aims to improve living conditions and support self-reliance.
Seasonal aid, totaling AED31.2 million, included initiatives such as the Ramadan campaign “Joud,” which covered Iftar projects, Ramadan provisions, Zakat Al-Fitr, Zakat Al-Mal, and Eid clothing. The Winter campaign provided winter clothing and blankets to workers, acknowledging their contributions to the nation.
Furthermore, the “Feeding Food” charitable project, encompassing Iftar meals, expiation, and feeding the poor, was conducted with a budget of AED3.2 million. SCI also executed community participation programmes worth AED3.4 million, supported by benefactors and institutional partnerships that enhanced service quality and aligned with SCI’s humanitarian goals.
