Supreme Court Reserves Order on Manish Sisodia’s Bail Pleas in Delhi Excise Policy Case
New Delhi: On Tuesday, the Supreme Court reserved its order on the bail pleas filed by AAP leader Manish Sisodia in connection with corruption and money laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
A bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan heard arguments from senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Sisodia, and Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju, who appeared for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, was first arrested by the CBI on February 26, 2023, over alleged irregularities related to the now-revoked Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. He was subsequently detained by the ED on March 9, 2023, in a money laundering case connected to the CBI FIR. Sisodia resigned from his position in the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023.
In his bail application, Sisodia has argued that he has been in custody for 17 months and that the trial against him has not yet commenced. Both the ED and the CBI have opposed his bail pleas, with the ED presenting documents to the court claiming Sisodia’s significant involvement in the alleged scam.
The Supreme Court’s decision on the matter is awaited.
