Title: Supreme Court YouTube Channel Hacked, Promoting Cryptocurrency Videos
The Supreme Court’s official YouTube channel was recently hacked, leading to the unauthorized posting of videos promoting XRP, a cryptocurrency developed by US-based Ripple Labs. Currently, a blank video titled “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION” is streaming on the compromised channel.
The Supreme Court’s YouTube channel serves a vital role by live-streaming important legal proceedings and matters of public interest. Following a landmark decision in 2018, the court had implemented a policy to live-stream all constitution bench hearings, a decision made during a full court meeting led by then Chief Justice UU Lalit.
The hacking incident became evident as the Supreme Court was set to hear a plea from the Muslim side regarding the Shahi Idgah-Krishna Janmabhoomi case. Notably, the channel had recently live-streamed a suo motu case concerning the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital.
In the wake of the hack, videos of previous hearings have reportedly been made private, raising concerns about the security and integrity of the court’s online presence. The Supreme Court is expected to take measures to address this breach and restore access to its content.
