Hyderabad: The Telangana state cabinet, convened at Dr. BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat on Friday afternoon, has decided to waive all crop loans up to Rs 2 lakh taken between December 12, 2018, and December 9, 2023.
Following the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who chaired the session, informed the media that an estimated Rs 31,000 crore would be required to implement the complete waiver of crop loans.
Revanth stated that all cabinet members have endorsed the eligibility criteria and regulatory framework for the loan waiver, which will soon be issued via a government order.
Highlighting previous initiatives, Revanth mentioned that while the previous BRS government waived Rs 16,000 crore in its first term and Rs 12,000 crore in its second, the current Congress government is waiving all crop loans up to Rs 2 lakh at once, bearing the total burden of Rs 31,000 crore.
He further announced the formation of a cabinet sub-committee chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, with Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, TPCC Manifesto Committee Chairman D Sridhar Babu, and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy as members. This sub-committee is tasked with outlining the eligibility criteria and other aspects of the Rythu Bharosa crop input financial assistance scheme, with a report expected by July 15 to be presented during the upcoming budget sessions.
Revanth also emphasized the state government’s decision to appoint Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and IT & Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu as designated points of contact for the media, ensuring accurate and reliable dissemination of official information.
“They will be readily available to the media and responsible for briefing on all government decisions going forward. Only information provided by them will be considered official,” he emphasized.
