Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Calls for Accountability in Kaleshwaram Project Failures
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy emphasized the need for accountability in the wake of the Kaleshwaram project’s collapse. Addressing officials during the appointment of 700 new Assistant Executive Engineers (AEEs) in the Irrigation department, he stated that field visits for quality checks are crucial for preventing similar failures in the future.
Reddy expressed frustration over the Kaleshwaram project, which, despite substantial financial investment, has not met its irrigation goals. He pointed out that previous government decisions led to significant issues, and he urged officials to assess whether the responsibility lies with politicians or their own execution of policies.
“The Kaleshwaram project, which cost over one lakh crore, should serve as a case study for avoiding future mistakes,” he asserted. He criticized the current state of the irrigation department, suggesting that it might need to be dissolved if accountability is not established. Reddy noted that longstanding projects like Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam remain functional, in stark contrast to the recently constructed Kaleshwaram project.
The chief minister highlighted the emotional connection the people of Telangana have with water resources and stressed the importance of judicious water management. He called for an investigation into the stagnation of projects over the past decade, citing a staggering expenditure of Rs 2 lakh crore without corresponding progress.
Reddy’s remarks reflect a broader commitment to transparency and effective governance as his administration works to address critical infrastructure issues in the state.
