Telangana DCA Officials Seize Ayurvedic Medicines with False Claims
Hyderabad: On Thursday, May 23, officials from the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) in Telangana conducted a special drive, resulting in the seizure of Ayurvedic medicines falsely advertised as cures for diabetes and pneumonia. These medicines were found circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, violating the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
During the operation aimed at identifying medicines with deceptive and objectionable advertisements, DCA officials discovered Ortho Win Gold Oil, an Ayurvedic product manufactured by Pharma Research Lab in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The product’s label falsely claimed it could treat pneumonia, according to V B Kamalasan Reddy, DG DCA.
The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, prohibits the advertisement of certain drugs for the treatment of specific diseases and disorders. The Act stipulates that no person shall participate in the publication of advertisements pertaining to the diseases or disorders specified under the Act.
The medicines were seized during a raid conducted at a medical shop in Gandipet, Rangareddy district. Individuals who engage in misleading advertisements regarding drugs for the treatment of certain diseases and disorders are subject to punishment, which may include imprisonment for up to six months, a fine, or both.
