Bhadradri Kothagudem: The police have reported the recovery of cash and liquor amounting to over Rs 3.5 crore at the check post in Telangana’s sensitive border district, Bhadradri Kothagudem, since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

According to Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju, 72 Naxalites have been killed in encounters in the surrounding areas of the district within the span of approximately a year, with a notable concentration occurring over the past three months.

The district has a total of 971 polling stations, out of which 135 have been identified as sensitive. To ensure security during the election process, CRPF personnel have been stationed at all polling booths and other significant locations within the district.

Situated on the border of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh, Bhadradri Kothagudem district holds strategic importance. Notably, it is approximately 80 kilometers away from the Naxal-affected Sukma area of Chhattisgarh.

Telangana is scheduled to conduct voting for all 17 seats on May 13th in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. In the previous 2019 general election, TRS secured nine seats, BJP four, Congress three, and AIMIM one.

With the completion of voting for the initial phases, the subsequent round is set for May 7th. The Lok Sabha polls are being conducted across seven phases until June 1st, with the vote count scheduled for June 4th.
