Telangana Secures Record Railway Budget Allocation for 2024-25 Fiscal Year
Telangana has achieved a historic milestone with a substantial budget allocation of Rs 5,336 crore dedicated to railway projects in the upcoming fiscal year 2024-25, marking a significant increase compared to the national railway budget of Rs 2.62 lakh crore.
Key Budget Breakdown
Announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the allocation includes Rs 1.09 lakh crore specifically earmarked for safety-related initiatives, underlining the government’s commitment to enhancing railway infrastructure across the state.
Growth Trajectory
The budgetary support for Telangana reflects a steady upward trend, with the current year’s allocation nearly six times higher than the average provided during the 2009-2014 period for united Andhra Pradesh, as highlighted by Minister Vaishnaw during a recent press conference in Delhi.
Infrastructure Developments
Currently, ongoing railway projects in Telangana are valued at Rs 32,946 crore, with the entire railway network in the state already fully electrified. Over the past decade, the state has seen an annual average construction of 65 km of new railway tracks, a significant increase from 17 km per year recorded from 2009 to 2014.
Focus on Modernization
The state’s railway modernization efforts also include the construction of 437 road-over-bridges (RoBs) and road-under-bridges (RuBs) to enhance safety and connectivity. Furthermore, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, several key railway stations in Telangana are set for comprehensive redevelopment, including Adilabad, Basar, Begumpet, and Hyderabad (Nampally), among others.
