Telangana CM Announces Rs 2 Lakh Crop Loan Waiver, Emphasizes Welfare Spending
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has made a significant announcement regarding the waiver of crop loans up to Rs 2 lakh, to be implemented in three phases by August, with an initial deposit of Rs 7,000 crore scheduled for Thursday at 4 pm.
The announcement came during a comprehensive review meeting held at Praja Bhavan on Wednesday, attended by Congress MLAs, MPs, MLCs, and key party leaders. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy underscored the government’s commitment to alleviating the financial burden on farmers, stressing that loans up to Rs 1.5 lakh would be waived off by the end of the month, followed by complete waiver up to Rs 2 lakh by August.
“We are steadfast in our promise to support farmers through this crop loan waiver initiative, aimed at upholding their dignity and relieving them of financial distress,” stated Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He urged Congress workers to engage with farmers across all levels — village, mandal, constituency, and district — to ensure clarity and transparency in the implementation process.
Highlighting the scale of the initiative, Revanth Reddy noted that no other state had undertaken such a comprehensive crop loan waiver totaling Rs 31,000 crore in a single phase. He instructed Congress MPs to highlight this achievement in Parliament, asserting that it fulfilled Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to farmers in Telangana.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka emphasized the meticulous planning and financial discipline behind the loan waiver, despite inheriting a significant debt burden. He contrasted this with previous schemes under the KCR government, stressing the swift and comprehensive nature of the current Congress-led initiative.
Acknowledging the extensive welfare spending under the new government, amounting to Rs 30,000 crore over the last seven months, Revanth Reddy called for celebration and awareness campaigns across the state. This includes bike rallies to Rythu Vedikas and active participation of MLAs in local festivities.
Moving forward, the government aims to amplify outreach efforts to ensure every farmer is informed and benefits from the loan waiver as per the Congress party’s commitments.
The implementation of these guarantees within a short period underscores the government’s proactive approach to fulfilling electoral promises and enhancing the welfare of its constituents, particularly farmers across Telangana.
