Hyderabad: In response to heightened passenger demand catalyzed by the Mahalakshmi scheme, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is slated to procure 2,900 new buses.
VC Sajjanar, Managing Director, announced the phased introduction of 2,000 diesel buses and 990 electric buses. Addressing attendees at the 10th Telangana State Formation Day celebrations at Bus Bhavan on RTC X Roads, Sajjanar also unveiled plans to hire 3,000 new employees pending government approval, aimed at bolstering operational capacity.
Acknowledging employee contributions, TGSRTC has increased the fitment allowance to 21% and sanctioned nine pending dearness allowances (DAs).
The swift implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme has led to a notable surge in daily ridership, rising from an average of 45 lakh to 55 lakh passengers.
Reflecting on TGSRTC’s history, Sajjanar recalled the pivotal 2011 ‘Memu Saitham (We too)’ strike by RTC employees, a significant chapter in the Telangana statehood movement, involving 56,604 RTC employees in the Sakala Janula Samme, one of India’s largest strikes.
The State Formation Day event also featured TGSRTC Chief Operating Officer Dr. Ravinder, Finance Adviser Vijaya Pushpa, and other dignitaries, participating in the festivities.
