Telugu Film Chamber Introduces Annual Awards and Declares Telugu Cinema Day
The Telugu Film Chamber has announced the introduction of annual awards for actors and professionals in the film industry, marking a significant development for the region’s cinema. This decision was unveiled during the Telugu Cinema Day celebrations held on Thursday, February 6, at the Telugu Film Chamber in Hyderabad. The event saw the participation of several prominent figures, including senior actor Murali Mohan, writer Paruchuri Gopala Krishna, Film Chamber President Bharat Bhushan, Secretary Prasanna Kumar, Directors’ Association President Veera Shankar, and film journalist Rentala Jayadev.
A key highlight of the event was the declaration of February 6 as Telugu Cinema Day, a move that solidifies the day as a significant occasion for the industry. In addition to this, the Film Chamber resolved to introduce its own awards to be presented annually, alongside the existing government awards. These awards will be distributed during the Telugu Cinema Day celebrations each year.
Further, it was decided that a special flag commemorating Telugu Cinema Day would be hoisted at the homes of actors and theaters annually on this occasion. Paruchuri Gopala Krishna has been tasked with designing the flag, which will serve as a symbol of pride and recognition for the Telugu film industry.
During the event, Murali Mohan shared his reflections on the influence of film personalities, emphasizing that cinema actors enjoy greater public admiration than politicians. He noted that unlike politicians, who lose public support after their tenure, and athletes, whose fame is often short-lived, film actors remain beloved figures in the hearts of audiences for a lifetime. Murali Mohan also recalled the time when the Telugu film industry was based in Madras, remembering how artists proudly identified themselves as part of the “cinema fraternity.” He expressed his joy at the decision to celebrate Telugu Cinema Day each year, recognizing it as a long-overdue tribute to the industry’s contributions.
The introduction of these awards and the establishment of Telugu Cinema Day are seen as a step toward honoring and celebrating the achievements of the film industry and its professionals.
