Two Arrested for Stone-Pelting Incident Outside Dasna Devi Temple Amid Protests
Ghaziabad: Two individuals were arrested on Friday for their involvement in a stone-pelting incident targeting a police party outside the Dasna Devi temple during a protest against controversial remarks made by priest Narsinghanand Saraswati about Prophet Muhammad. The arrested suspects, identified as Momin (32) and Wahid (35), were apprehended based on CCTV footage and specific intelligence, according to police officials.
The incident occurred on October 4, following remarks made by Saraswati during an event at Hindi Bhawan on September 29. Angered by his comments, a group of protesters confronted the police, leading to the stone-pelting.
Wave City police station’s Station Officer (SO) Ankit Kumar confirmed the arrests and stated that a total of 27 individuals involved in the incident have now been apprehended. Authorities are actively pursuing further leads to capture any remaining suspects.
Narsinghanand Saraswati currently faces multiple FIRs and has been met with widespread protests from Muslim groups. His remarks are alleged to have violated Section 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses offenses related to intentionally hurting religious sentiments. The police continue to investigate the situation to maintain order and address the ongoing tensions.
