In a significant political development, former BRS MLA Atram Sakku has joined the Congress party, marking a major shift in the political landscape ahead of the 2024 elections. Atram Sakku, who had won the Asifabad constituency in both 2009 and 2019 as a Congress candidate, made a strategic move to the BRS in 2018. However, with the changing political dynamics and dissatisfaction brewing ahead of the upcoming elections, Sakku returned to Congress, further strengthening the party’s ranks.
The Congress welcomed Atram Sakku with open arms, as TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud felicitated him during a ceremony held at the party office in Hyderabad. In addition to Sakku, former Adilabad MP and BJP leader Soyam Bapurao also joined Congress. Bapurao, who had contested and won as a BJP candidate in 2019, made his decision after the BJP announced Godam Nagesh as their candidate for the Adilabad constituency in the 2024 elections, causing dissatisfaction among some local leaders.
The political shift comes at a crucial juncture as all parties gear up for the 2024 elections. The addition of Atram Sakku and Soyam Bapurao is expected to bolster Congress’s position in the region, particularly in Adilabad and Asifabad, which are seen as key constituencies in Telangana’s electoral battle.
With these developments, both Sakku and Bapurao’s entry into Congress strengthens its foothold in the region, potentially impacting the political equations in Telangana as the elections draw closer.
