RCB Coach Andy Flower Provides Update on Virat Kohli’s Injury, Reflects on Loss to Gujarat Titans
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach Andy Flower gave an update on star batter Virat Kohli’s finger injury following their defeat to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. Kohli, who sustained the injury while fielding during GT’s chase of 170, was treated by the RCB physio after he hurt his finger while attempting to prevent a boundary in the 12th over. Despite his grimace in pain, Flower assured fans that Kohli is fine, saying, “Virat looks fine, he’s okay, there’s no worry.”
In a match that saw RCB defeated by eight wickets, Flower acknowledged that Kohli’s injury was not a major concern. However, RCB struggled with Mohammed Siraj’s impressive 3-19 performance. Flower stated, “The toss was reasonably important, and we knew dew would play a role. The conditions were not typical of Chinnaswamy, where the ball usually comes quicker.” He praised Siraj for his excellent spell with the new ball, saying, “His lines were good, his lengths were tight, and he threatened the stumps a lot.”
Flower also expressed admiration for the performances of Liam Livingstone (40-ball 54), Jitesh Sharma (33), and Tim David (32), who helped RCB post a competitive total of 169/8. Despite the solid effort, RCB fell short in their homecoming match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Flower added, “We lost some wickets in the powerplay trying to be aggressive, which had a big impact. But after that, we fought hard, and I’m proud of the way we scrapped. Tim David, Jitesh, and Livingstone did well to give us a total we could challenge them with.”
RCB will now have a four-day break before they face Mumbai Indians on April 7 at the Wankhede Stadium, hoping to bounce back after their recent defeat.
