Modi to Induct Southern State MPs into Council of Ministers
New Delhi: Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi is set to include several MPs from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana into his Council of Ministers, as a gesture of recognition to the BJP’s coalition partners in the southern states, sources confirmed on Sunday.
Modi, who will be sworn in for a third consecutive term as prime minister on Sunday, will be accompanied by members of his council.
According to sources, two MPs each from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the BJP in Andhra Pradesh, where the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats, will take the oath alongside Modi.
Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, a three-time MP, is expected to receive a Cabinet berth, while Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, a first-time MP, may be appointed as Minister of State.
Industrialist and TDP leader Jayadev Galla extended congratulations to the two leaders on their anticipated appointments.
From the BJP’s contingent in Andhra Pradesh, where the party won three seats, state unit chief Daggubati Purandeshwari and Narsapuram MP Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma are likely candidates for ministerial positions.
In Telangana, where the BJP made significant gains by winning eight seats out of 17, Bandi Sanjay and G Kishan Reddy are expected to take the oath.
From Karnataka, where the NDA secured 19 seats out of 28, four BJP MPs are likely to be inducted into the government. Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy could also be appointed as a Union minister, sources added.
The BJP secured 17 seats in Karnataka, while the Janata Dal (Secular) won two seats in the recent elections.
