Hyderabad, June 4, 2024: The announcement of NEET 2024 results has ignited a significant controversy, prompting calls from both the Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) parties for a thorough investigation into alleged irregularities. The Congress has specifically urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the matter.
Concerns have been raised regarding the integrity of the examination process overseen by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The Congress, in an official statement, has pointed out several discrepancies, including allegations of exam paper leaks in various locations.
Of particular concern is the unprecedented occurrence of 67 students achieving perfect scores of 720 out of 720, a departure from NEET’s historical norms. Suspicion has also been cast on the clustering of high scores at a single examination center in Haryana, where eight students scored above 718 marks, with six achieving perfect scores, suggesting potential irregularities.
Uday Kanth, TPCC Leader and legal cell member, expressed concerns about statistically improbable scores of 718 and 719 attained by multiple students. He criticized the NTA for what he termed unsatisfactory explanations and a lack of transparency. Additionally, there are allegations that grace marks were awarded due to exam time wastage, a practice not disclosed in the exam’s information brochure, disadvantaging many students.
The timing of the result announcement, coinciding with the Lok Sabha 2024 election results, has also drawn scrutiny, with allegations of an attempt to evade oversight.
In response to these concerns, the Congress has called for the suspension of counseling pending a comprehensive investigation. They demand scrutiny of students who received grace marks and advocate for strict penalties for those found guilty of malpractice, emphasizing the importance of upholding the integrity of the NEET examination process and safeguarding the future of thousands of students.
KT Rama Rao (KTR), BRS working president, echoed these concerns, highlighting the absence of Telangana students in the Top 5 rankings for the first time in five years. He called for transparency in the allocation of grace marks, proposing a standardized methodology that benefits all students equally. Rao further demanded the establishment of a high-level expert committee to thoroughly investigate the results and ensure fairness for all students and their families.
With mounting pressure from both major parties in Telangana, the NDA government faces increasing calls to address the alleged irregularities in the NEET 2024 results promptly and transparently.
