Hyderabad: Congress Candidate Narayan Sri Ganesh Wins Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly Seat in By-Election
In a by-election held for the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly seat following the untimely death of sitting MLA and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislator Lasya Nanditha in a tragic road accident, Congress candidate Narayan Sri Ganesh emerged victorious.
Following the demise of MLA Lasya Nanditha, the BRS nominated Nanditha’s sister, G Nivedita, for the by-poll.
Narayan Sri Ganesh secured 53,651 votes, clinching victory with a margin of 13,206 votes. He was followed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dr. Vamsha Tilak T N, who garnered 40,445 votes, while G Nivedita secured the third position with 34,462 votes.
The late MLA Lasya Nanditha tragically passed away in a road accident on February 23 on the Outer Ring Road in Patancheru, accompanied by her driver and a gunman. Aged 37, she had entered politics following the passing of her father, Sayaanna, a revered leader in the Secunderabad Cantonment.
With this victory, the Congress party’s MLA count, including those who defected from the BRS, now stands at a total of 64 MLAs in the state Assembly.
