India Seeks Enhanced Collaboration with IMF: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman expressed India’s eagerness to expand its partnership with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during a meeting with IMF’s First Deputy Managing Director, Gita Gopinath, on Saturday.
Gopinath praised the Indian government for maintaining policy continuity and adhering to its fiscal consolidation objectives. In response, Sitharaman highlighted India’s commitment to its relationship with the IMF and expressed openness to exploring additional avenues for deepening collaboration.
“FM Smt. @nsitharaman stated that India deeply values its relationship and continuous engagement with IMF; and looking ahead, the Government of India is open to exploring more ways to increase India’s collaboration with the IMF,” the finance ministry shared on X.
Gopinath also commended the robust performance of the Indian economy and reaffirmed the strength of the bilateral relationship, noting its significance for both India, the IMF, and the global economy.
