Narendra Modi to Take Oath as Prime Minister for Third Term on Sunday
New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi announced that Narendra Modi will be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time on Sunday, during the NDA parliamentary party meeting held here.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for 6 pm on June 9 at the Central Hall of the old Parliament Building, where NDA leaders, including chief ministers and senior alliance members, gathered to elect Modi as their leader. BJP President J P Nadda is expected to propose a resolution endorsing Modi’s leadership, which is likely to be supported by allies and MPs.
Following Modi’s election as the NDA leader, senior alliance members such as TDP’s N Chandrababu Naidu, JD(U)’s Nitish Kumar, and Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde will accompany the Prime Minister to meet President Droupadi Murmu, presenting her with the list of supporting parliamentarians, according to sources within the alliance.
Alongside leaders like Naidu, Kumar, Shinde, Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Anupriya Patel, and Pawan Kalyan were also present on the main dais along with senior BJP officials.
The NDA commands 293 MPs, comfortably exceeding the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha.
Senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nadda, have been actively engaging with allies to finalize the distribution of ministerial portfolios in the new government, crucial for ensuring stability and support.
Since the June 4 election results, the BJP leadership has swiftly moved to form the government, dispelling any uncertainties following the setback where the ruling party lost its majority for the first time since 2014, necessitating alliance support to retain power.
