New Delhi: X Corp, led by Elon Musk, implemented a ban on 184,241 accounts in India from March 26 to April 25, primarily due to their involvement in promoting child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity.
During this period, the micro-blogging platform, undergoing significant changes under Musk’s leadership, also removed 1,303 accounts for promoting terrorism within the country.
In total, X Corp enforced bans on 185,544 accounts during the reporting period. In compliance with the new IT Rules, 2021, the platform published its monthly report, revealing that it received 18,562 user complaints from India within the same timeframe through its grievance redressal mechanisms.
Additionally, the company addressed 118 grievances related to appealing account suspensions. “After reviewing the specifics of the situation, we overturned 4 of these account suspensions. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended,” stated the company.
Furthermore, X Corp received 105 inquiries regarding general account-related questions during the reporting period.
The majority of complaints from India pertained to ban evasion (7,555), followed by hateful conduct (3,353), sensitive adult content (3,335), and abuse/harassment (2,402).
From February 26 to March 25, X Corp had previously banned 212,627 accounts in India. Additionally, the micro-blogging platform removed 1,235 accounts for promoting terrorism during that period.
